Finally

So i was having a rough day yesterday and i just needed to listen to some of my favorite songs to help cheer me up. I decided to finally add some music to my blog to give you a taste of what songs i listened to. Currently i cant get enough of Vanilla Twilight and Havent Met You Yet. I play them over and over again. Wild at Heart is just a great song and since its finally December i thought i would throw in a Christmas song, Mistletoe, by the one and only Colbie Caillat. Thats all i have time to write, ive got a busy two weeks ahead of me.

Grad, div, curl of F

So, I am sitting here all alone in my room studying for like the 7 straight hour for my calculus 3 test later this evening, and i have gotten a little bored. Everyone has already left for Thanksgiving break but i will be here until tomorrow morning... Oh well. But i am going over my notes for Calc and i noticed some very funny, disturbing, and quite weird comments i have written down and i want to share them. So here goes. Keep in mind all of these things were said by my professor.
  • "The use of r, theta instead of x,y may be advantageous when the integrand (aka the function) and/or the boundary of R are/is most naturally expressed in terms of r, theta." -- Ya sounds fun right?
  • He goes through an entire problem then stops after he gets the answer and says "but thats wrong..." --uh... so you showed us what not to do??
  • My professor talking about finding the surface area, "this looks horrible and in calculations it is often going to be horrible." -- GREAT!!
  • Now he's talking about going from double to triple integrals.... "let's make things worse," after a short laugh from the class... "truthfully." -- doesn't this class sound fun?
  • "Line integrals" he does an example, "More line integrals" does another example, "Yet more line integrals" does yet another example.
  • "Anticlockwise, or as you Americans say 'counterclockwise'".
  • "Spherical polars are just making things worse, so, obviously, choose a different method."

So, basically, this class is a lot of fun.... but good news is after this test i can relax and see my family tomorrow for Thanksgiving break :)

Love ya!

Happy Birthday Mommy!!

So, today Nov 19, is my dear mother's birthday. Unfortunately, I am not there to celebrate with her but I get to see her and the rest of the fam next week for Thanksgiving Break!!
But i just wanted to share a few reasons why i love my mother, Penny:
  1. She is always the one to make me and my dad talk to eachother after we are both fighting and both being to stubborn to say we are sorry. She makes us be nice to eachother :)
  2. She always encourages me to do my best
  3. She puts up with me... haha
  4. I love staying up late on weekends watching a chick flick or some other movie with her
  5. She always has to deal with me crying and she knows just what to say
  6. She loves me no matter what!!
  7. She works so hard to make my life better
  8. She sends me pictures of the animals at home while i am away at school and cant see them, they make me so happy :)
  9. I can talk to her about anything
  10. She is so amazing and such a great role model!!

Well, Mom, I love ya!! I wish i could be there to celebrate with you but i hope you have a great Birthday!

See ya in less than a week!!
Love,
Sas
OH AND PS. I MAY ACTUALLY PASS PHYSICS!!!! I HAVE A SOLID C RIGHT NOW AND SO I JUST NEED TO DO GOOD ON THE FINAL AND I WILL PASS THE CLASS!!! I AM SOOOOO FREAKING EXCITED!!!

Vernier Spectometer Instrument

Well, not much new to report. I have been super busy with school and what not recently. Lots of tests and lots and lots and lots of homework and studying. I also had to make my schedule for next semester and it is just stressing me out more. Too much to do and not enough time to do it. But good news about my next semester schedule is that i get to register with the sophomore class instead of with the freshman class at the last possible time slot. So instead of registering on Friday Nov 20 at 4:30 i get to register Thurs Nov 19 at 4:30!! Gotta love AP credit. Thats why i took so many AP classes in high school to get ahead. Helping now and making me feel a little less stressed. But if i thought this semester was hard next semester is going to be worse. :( but whatever it will all be worth it when i leave this school with a job and making tons of money :). In what little time i have had to think and breathe, i have been pretty much relaxing and catchin up on some sleep. thus, the blog was put a little bit on the back burner. Oh and in the past few weeks i decided that i hate vernier spectrometer instruments that i have to use in chem lab, i hate physics studio and lon-capa, and that i am excited to see my family in a couple weeks for Thanksgiving. luckily, i didnt have to use the vernier spectrometer instrument again this week in chem lab so this week's lab went much more smoothly. I have also realized how much i miss basketball. I have played a couple times in the past few weeks and it was so fun. I think i forgot how much of my time basketball took up and now that it is basketball season again, and i am not playing, it is like there is a hole. However as much as i miss it, i dont know that i would be able to handle playing on a team right now just because of the work load of this school. But i will keep playing just for fun. Also i decided that having your birthday not only during the week of finals but in between the two days i have finals, SUCKS. So my birthday is going to consist of me studying for finals, how fun. :( But on a happier note, i am now an initiated member of Sigma Kappa! thats fun. but i cant tell you about it. so dont ask. well those are my thoughts of the day. hope you enjoyed my ranting, complaining, and random thoughts.

Snow Day!!

Today i had my first ever snow day!!! We got so much snow here in Golden that they closed the school yesterday at 3 and cancelled all classes today!! Thats right all you Utah people, all of you that were so excited about the snow, you got nothing!! We have over 2 feet!! Also there was supposed to be a chem exam today but the campus was closed so i couldnt take my test, shoot. There was sooooo much snow that this big tree branch fell down right outside my dorm.
I woke up this morning and was overjoyed to look at my phone and see that i have an email saying school is cancelled for the day. I promptly told Bailey and since it was only 7 in the morning, we went back to bed. After another 2 hours of sleep, we woke up and took our time getting ready to go down to breakfast. After breakfast, we cuddled up on the chairs in our room and watched one of the best movies in the world..... Harry Potter! And since it was the first big snowstorm so we naturally went out to play! Dani, Bailey, and I had a nice snowball fight/tackle eachother in the snow. This is Bailey tackling Dani...

Dani after being tackled... :)

Bailey in the process of taking Dani down.

Dani and Bailey just takin a breather.
Dani tackling me. Yes i am in there somewhere....

Me and Dani after I tackled her back.

HOME!!

So, everyone is freakin out at me for not updating my blog in a timely manner so here you all go. I hope you enjoy.

I got to come home last weekend for my fall break and let me tell you I had a blast!! It was a little weird being home at first but i really enjoyed seeing everyone.
Since i was home, we of course had to go to the Mayan. Yes, the Mayan. The food is gross but the atmosphere and divers make it all worth it. Unfortunately, nattles, who made the reservation, couldnt join us, but we took some awesome pics still, self-timer of course.
We went to Lisa's house afterwards and had a birthday party, complete with Claire's delicious chocolate cake! The empty plate in the middle signifies Natalie who wasnt there.

The waiters at the Mayan who sang Happy Birthday to me.

More Mayan pics and fun

Self-timer in Julies Basement.

I unfortunately, dont have any of the pics from my welcome commity at the airport. But they were great!!

How Nerds do Homecoming.

Ok so here is a look at Homecoming:

Gumby
Our float...

The freezing cold i had to sit through.
Taryn and me. This was Taryn's first experience with snow. Shes from California and had never seen snow before. Being her first snow, she was pretty excited about that icicle.

Blakley and Me

Our awesome t-shirts. I will try and get one in the dark later.

Me, Bailey, and Kat before the football game.

Downtown Golden, view from the float.

Taryn and Jennifer

Me, Blakley, Taryn, Jennifer, Whitney, Maura, and a Fiji boy.

The freezing cold I woke up too.

Step 1: Choose a theme. So, the obvious choice would have to do with space because we are nerds after all and most nerds love anything to do with space and/or NASA. Hence, you get the theme SPACEBLASTER!!!
Step 2: Make an awesome t-shirt.
But the best part about this t-shirt is that it is GLOW-IN-THE-DARK!!
Step 3: Make a float for the parade. Now, you can go all out and actually build something like most frats do and end up spending most of the night before the parade finishing it. Now, you make something that extravagant in the hopes of winning the float building prize. However, if you are from my sorority and team up with the frat FIJI you can just attach some stars to some PVC pipe and have people old rubber balls that looked like planets while everyone else waves and hands out candy. Normally you would think that this technique would not win at most things, however, you would be sadly mistaken. Because not only did our float make it to the top three and get to drive around at half time of the homecoming football game, we also won the whole contest. That’s right. We won. Our float was the bomb dot com. Our theme for the actual float was the “Space Race” and we had the Soviet Union going against the USA. We even had people with rocket ships riding around on the float.
The guys in the masks were planets… ONLY the planets and rocket ships were actually allowed on the float part and everyone else had to walk or ride in the bed of the truck if there was room.

Also, it is tradition for FIJI to have Gumby ride along on the float so of course we had a very large Gumby…
Step 4: Make sure that the day of homecoming is very cold and snowy. One of the pictures shows what I woke up to at 8 in the morning right before I was leaving to go sit outside for 4 hours. The other picture is of lovely Downtown Golden while riding on the float.
Step 5: Enjoy your first college homecoming experience. Homecoming was packed with all kinds of activities from powder-puff football, to float building, to concerts, to the actual football game. First on Friday night, there was a powder-puff football game with my sorority. Now I am athletic but let’s just say not everyone else is… there are a few others but it’s basically me and 3 other girls that even have a remote idea as to what they were doing. Needless to say, we lost. Next, there was a concert with the band called Singlefile. I guess they are kind of a big deal here in Colorado… Who knew? Not I. Anyways after the concert, I went and spent some quality time with some of the guys in Kappa Sigma, not to be confused with my sorority of Sigma Kappa. They were still working on their float (we were done hours ago) and so we just sat and talked while they worked hard drawing in huge bold letters with sharpie. After we were finished chatting (they were still building and would be into the wee hours of the morning) we decided to head back to the dorms. We watched just watched a movie with some of the guys on the first floor. We don’t really know the first floor guys that well so it was fun getting to know them. I ended up going to bed much later than I was hoping for (around 3 in the am). I had to be up at 8 for the parade. Fun stuff! Basically all of Saturday went like this: stand out in the cold, be in the parade at 10 for a total of about 30 minutes, stand outside some more. Go warm up and eat breakfast. Go to the football game and stand outside some more. Ride our float around at half time and then leave the game because you are sick of sitting outside in the cold. Take a nice long hot shower and a 3 hour nap. And this next part is going to show everyone how much of a nerd I really am. Keep in mind it is Saturday night. After my 3 hour nap, I went to dinner then did some physics homework. I worked on physics and calculus until about 9 pm. Yes I am a nerd. But after 9 I did go hang out with some girls from my hall and ended up watching SNL. It was a very lazy, relaxing night after all the crazy, cold events of homecoming.

And that is how Nerds do Homecoming. Doesn’t it look like a BLAST?!?
Love, Skip
P.S. Yesterday I overhead a casual conversation about physics. That’s when you really know what kind of school I am at.

Sneak Preview

I just wanted to say that i am soooo excited to be coming home tomorrow!! I will see you in less than 36 hours!!
Here is a little sneak peak at Homecoming... I will post more details later because it will be a lengthy post and, frankly, i just dont have time right now.

Love and hugs, Skippy

Never Again

So, i have decided that my new goal is to take more pictures. To start this new goal, I was going to take pictures of my earth lab field trip up to North Table Mountain. This lab involved us walking up a path to the top of North Table and looking at rocks and what not. And to my surprise, it was actually kind of fun. The whole looking at rocks and trying to figure out what type they were wasnt fun, but the hiking up and getting to know some people a little better was fun. But anyways, back to the picture taking goal. So i get to the top of the mountain and pull out my camera. I go to turn it on, and i get a message saying your batteries are dead and the camera then turns off. Of course. I decide to take pictures and you (the camera) decide to die on me. AWESOME! But dont worry. This is where a handy iPhone comes in. So although they arent the best quality, at least i did get some.
These first three are from the top of the North Table Mountain.

You cant tell but in this picture but this is looking at Downtown Denver.
I think this one has the M on the opposite mountain, but i cant really tell...

This is just an awesome picture of the fort Bailey and I made last Friday night. Thats right we made a fort. It was a girls movie night. It even included chick flix and cookie dough. I needed it last Friday...
I went to a Rockies game last week. It was super fun. Here is the view from where were sitting in the "ROCKPILE"...

Haha this one is a picture sent to me from my mother. My lovely little sister answering to her first high school dance. How precious.

And i just had to throw this one in... Look familiar to anyone?? Oh the good old days.
This is a picture of the MAIN street in Downtown Golden. Nice little town, dont you think?

Well thats all i've got for today. But dont worry, i now have fresh batteries in my camera and this weekend is filled with many opportunities for "smile" moments! Homecoming is upon us... SPACE BLASTER. be excited for the tshirts we got. they are awesome, you just wait.
See you in a WEEK!
Love,
Skippy

.41 no .40!

So, I am sitting here in my room with Bailey and another friend, Kat, and they are talking about their epics class (engineering design class) and I have no idea what they saying because i am not in that class. They dont seem to be having too much fun, so lets just say i am not looking forward to this class. They are throwing out words like inclinded planes, the counter sink, and leader lines. Random dimensions are being tossed into the air- the top radius is .40, no its .41, wait are you sure? i am pretty sure its .41 not .40. I was thinking if i am lost in their conversation, how would someone from home, or anywhere but Mines for example, feel in one of my classes? Well, I think they would be quite lost, because to be honest, i am part of the time.
On another note, after my very long, tiring, stressful week last week, i am definitely looking forward to a somewhat relaxing week this week. I mean, how relaxed can i get here at Mines? This isn't CU (haha funny CU reference, often used by my physics professor). But really, last week was no fun on many levels and most of you know what i am talking about. This past week i have really missed the standard 7, other, somewhat newer ;) friends, as well as family. But, there is one bit of good news that came out of last week. I get to come home!! Thats right, i will be back in the SLC in 11 days, thats about 264 hours, or roughly 15840 minutes. I hope you all can handle it.
See you soon!
I love saying that so i will say it again.
SEE YOU SOON!!!
Love Skiparoo Blue (haha)

A few more...

You know you're a Mines student when you are 1 of 3 girls in your entire earth systems lab (there are approx 25 people total). You know you're a Mines student when you walk around campus looking at rocks and determining what kind they are. You know you're a Mines student when you are in a group with 3 other GUYS and all they talk about are there plans for the weekend. You know you're a Mines student when those guys' plans are to play Halo and video games all weekend, maybe go a frat party but probably not. You know you are AT Mines when you notice actually how many rocks are just placed randomly around campus and there is a Mines geology rock trail. You know you are a Mines student when you rearrange your room so that your desk is below your bookshelf so it is easy to store your books and reach them to study (i.e. stay more organized and study more effectively). You know you are a Mines student when you get up at 8 in the morning on a day when you are supposed to have class off and be able to sleep in but instead go talk to another teacher about another one of your homework. You know you're a Mines student when while rearranging your room someone asks how should we do this and you respond with "we can figure it out, we are Helluva engineers." You know you're a Mines student when your teacher says "You will get your test back Monday and DONT worry i will post all the statistics like high and low and average because most of you like that stuff" and think i really do want to know those things...

You know when.

You know you're a Mines student when you go on a walk and talk and study about the Chemistry test that is later that day. You know you're a Mines student when you hate using scientific calculators and all you want is your wonderful TI-83 graphing calculator. You know you're a Mines student when you like Calculus 3 more than Calc 2. You know you're a Mines student when you just dont want to FAIL a test, a C is great! You know you're a Mines student when you when the words Lon-Capa come up and you quickly change the subject. You know you're a Mines student when you can find ways to remember the six forms of mechanical weathering using motions, hand signals, and strange voices-IMPACT, Abrasion (arch), Froooooost wedging, ROOT wedging, Salt (square) wedging, and UPLOADING (facebook!). It is hard to describe the motions and voices for those but trust me they were awesome. This brings me to my next one. You know you're a Mines student when you actually enjoyed studying. (Bailey and I had some awesome ways to remember things for our earth and environmental systems test! i.e. see above, as well as Felsic full, mafic minimal, Aa OUCH! sharp!, ferric-crimson, red ferric iron turns soil red, ferrous- shamrock green ferrous iron turns soil green, that rock as stripes it looks gneiss, shit that rock has particles that you can see, schist haha) Most of that probably made no sense but we remembered it for the test. And everytime the answer was one of those you couldnt help but smile :). You know you're a Mines student when you are so happy this week is almost over.

This One is for my Daddy.

This picture was taken right after my mom started crying and anyone who knows me knows that when i see someone crying i am bound to start crying myself. So the picture is not too cute but i still like it...

Hello. Today is September 25 which just happens to be my daddy's birthday!!! Happy birthday DAD!! It is weird not being there with you on this very special occasion. I think this is the first time ever in my life that i am not there to celebrate with you. Thats a whopping 18 years, man. But anyways I love ya DAD!!

I love you because:

  • If i had been a boy my name would have been Thomas Chester Spangler the Third.
  • He loved baseball but because neither my sister or I played baseball, he switched to soccer just so he could enjoy it with us. (After seeing him at one of Davis's baseball games, I wondered how in the world he went so long without being able to enjoy that sport. His reply it was hard but i did it because i loved you two and you didnt want to play so i found something else i could enjoy doing with you.)
  • You have supported me throughout my entire life and have always told me I can do anything.
  • The many hilarious moments we have shared while coaching the little girls soccer team (man, I should've worn deoderant :) or toking, pasing, spreding out, uoosing the wall, garding the uther team, and wercking together) and the opportunities you have provided me with to grow as a coach and leader.
  • The countless hours we can go without talking when we fight because we are both just too stubborn to face the fact that one of us was wrong and to go talk to the other. Instead we can go a long time until mom is finally like, just talk to eachother already, who cares who was right. (PS- WE care who was right haha)
  • The many hours you have spent making my life better. Whether at work or helping me with school (even though that stopped around 10th grade haha) and the hours just spent talking.

I miss you Dad and I love you very much!!!

Happy Birthday!!!

Sarbear :)

This is it.

All i have to say is that my flag football team finally won a game. It was great.

Monday, September 21, 2009

Hello all,
I am just writing this post to wish Miss Hannah Elizabeth McVea a wonderful 19th birthday! So Happy Birthday! Wish i could be there! Love you and Miss you! Also on another note... We got our first snow of the season here. It is up in the mountains and not down in the town but you can definitely see it. It is at about the level of the "M" so not too far away... its great all the status updates from my friends here at Mines say something like "it is snowing!" or "snow, already?"

PA

You know you are at a school full of nerds when...
  1. PE isn't called PE but rather PA for physical activity because PE stands for petroleum engineering.
  2. And when the goal of PA is to get kids to put down their books and calculators and just have fun for an hour and half a week.
  3. And when you are playing dodgeball and think hey these guys are nerds how hard can they throw? just to find out that nerds have a lot of pent up stress and dont mind taking it out on girls they dont know and will probably never talk to, i.e. they can actually throw pretty hard.
  4. On the weekends it is normal to find a room full of guys not partying or anything but playing World of Warcraft or someother video game.
  5. When you hear words like lon capa, kinematics, and partial derivatives and know what they mean and also cringe at the thought of them.
  6. When you have quiet hours from 7pm-7am on the weekdays and 11pm-11am on the weekends so there is a quiet study environment.
  7. And when you have kids walking through the halls at 7:06 pm telling people to be quiet because it is now quiet hours and they are trying to study calc, physics, or something of the sort and are being completely serious.
  8. When seeing shirts like "I r=1-sin(x) Calculus BC" is normal. (r=1-sin(x) is an equation for a heart, so the shirt says "I heart Calculus BC")
  9. Your chemistry professor really does love to blow things up and do all kinds of crazy experiments even though they are against the fire code.
  10. And this same professor loves the elements song. If you dont know what that is, look it up. You will understand.
  11. When jokes about CU and CSU are common and are often about there lack of knowledge compared to us.
  12. When you are walking down the hall and see a guy and he turns his head or completely turns around because he is too embarrassed to talk to a girl.
  13. Or the guy says hi super awkward and you try to talk to him and he answers with short comments so you just give up trying to talk to him.
  14. When every door is held open for you because boys here may not talk to you but are very polite. (maybe on is from the south?)
  15. When you are playing dodgeball in gym and a guy jokes about finding the velocity of the ball or the friction of your feet on the mat.
  16. When a calculus equation takes over one line to write down and so you have to continue on the next line or turn your paper horizontal just to find out it doesnt fit that way either.
  17. When you are complaining about how physics is so hard and that it takes so long to do one problem and you are then told that a 10 minute problem is nothing compared to a problem that takes over an hour and probably about 4 pages to complete.
  18. When there is a huge party because the football team actually won a game.
  19. When you are told that your sorority is making a float for homecoming with one of the frats and that this is the first year the frat has ever done an activity for homecoming with girls.
  20. And lastly, when your theme for homecoming is Space Blaster.

I LOVE IT!!

I just keep going.

Well yesterday was interesting, to say the least. It was one long day full of so many emotions. I cried (my sisters keeper), i rejoiced (my test wasnt as bad as i was expecting, but still harder than your average test), i cried a little more, i couldnt sleep, i stayed up way to late and got up way to early, I enjoyed talking to various people, with some of which it has been way to long since we have last talked, and i hope i didnt ruin anything. But i wouldnt have it any other way.

PHYSICS!

So i promised some certain people i would update my blog. So, you know who you are, and here you go. I promised to split my few minutes of extra time between facebook and my blog, with the idea that there will be more to read here. So here it is:
There really isnt much exciting going on with the exception of my first two college tests. My calc 2 test went alright... I think and am hoping so; i wont find out for sure until tomorrow. But tomorrow is the test i am more concerned/nervous for... PHYSICS!! So tonight is going to consist of studying with a break for dinner and a break to go play some flag football. YA!!! Tomorrow, if you try to contact me i might be freaking out or something so dont be offended if i dont respond to you right away. But hey, maybe i will just be like whatever happens, happens i wont know until tomorrow i guess. Um other than that nothing really knew. I am thinking of going to see My Sisters Keeper tomorrow (the school is showing it) but am debating it because i dont really know if i want to cry infront of all those kids and also because it might make me feel worse after my physics test. I will just go with the flow.
Thats all folks.

SK and 75%

For those of you who i havent talked to recently you may be surprised to know i joined a sorority. Yes, me Sarah Spangler is now a proud member of the sorority of Sigma Kappa. I am hoping to meet lots of new girls- aka get a break from being around boys all the time. I mean there is a 75% male population here. Also, i have my first college exam on Monday. And technically it is also my first final exam of college. You see this is a special class that is Calc 2 short form where basically i take this class for 4 weeks, take a final, and if i pass the final i get to skip calc 2 and go straight to calc 3. So this should be fun on Monday! it is also a 2 part final so it will continue on tuesday. If the first college exam being a final isnt bad enough, I also have my first physics exam on Thursday. Oh boy am i excited for next week.
I have also joined the intramural girls flag football team which is turning out to be very fun. Even though we lost the first game, no we got creamed. But it is very fun and exciting. Even better, I get a break from all that work and studying.

Middle Names

So i am sitting here in Colorado watching my favorite movie, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, with my roommate, when Ally, with whom i am facebook chatting with, ever so politely suggests i update my blog. So here it goes. This one goes out to LISA CLAIR who's birthday it happens to be today. HAPPY 19th GURL!!
It seems like it was just yesterday, when i showed up to my first practice with the Cosmos soccer club. This is where i first met dear Lisa. From that point on we basically lived the same life (that is until i moved to Colorado for school at least). Well we became great friends and I truly do miss her along with the rest of the Standard. There have been so many memories with Lisa that i will never forget. Here are just a few memories and things that i love about Lisa:
  • HELL WEEK. Probably one of the worst weeks of our lives. We cried a lot that week.
  • Snipers
  • Lisa's love of Hello Kitty
  • Driving to school in complete silence in the morning but it not being awkward at all
  • Choose your own adventure
  • CUBS
  • Ice cream
  • Hoola Hooping
  • Multiple soccer and basketball tournaments
  • At these tournaments going to bed but then we would start talking and end up talking for hours and going to bed really late and being super tired the next day.

These are just a handful of the memories i have shared with her. Wish i could be there to celebrate with you, Lisa!! Love you and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Laundry Day!

I just wanted to let everyone know i just spent over an hour and a half working on 1 physics problem. Granted it had 5 parts but that means it took me roughly 18 minutes to do 1 part. This time is just for physics. Keep in mind i worked on homework and did some laundry from 2:00-5:00. This time included some Chemistry and Calculus. I still am not done with either.
Just thought you should know what i have been doing today! Oh one other great thing about college is that i had 3 classes today, and class was over before it was supposed to be for all 3! That's right, in college if you finish the work or teachers just decide to end it early, you can leave. I love COLLEGE!

Um... Study.

Well, i spent my first weekend here at the Colorado School of Mines. It consisted of getting into a freezing creek at 10 at night, watching some movies, just hanging out, and field day with the sororities. There was also a Mines football game thrown in there and unfortunately they lost. But what can you expect? We are an engineering school filled with nerds and not to many (if any) "dumb jocks" that you would expect to find on a football team. These boys are here for school so who cares if they can't play football. Also the stadium is about the same size as the Skyline stadium if not smaller. Although a new one is built but no seating is yet available, so maybe that one will be bigger but it is highly unlikely. You see, not many nerds play football, they play video games. So I bet a video game competition would be more popular than a stupid football game on this campus.
My Sunday consisted of me sleeping in and doing pretty much nothing but homework. I had a bit of a rough morning (my parents can verify that) and to make myself feel better i went to the rec center where i rode the bike and worked out on the elliptical for over an hour. Now i havent worked out in quite a while so that was pretty amazing if i dont say so myself. Next I came back to do some homework and that basically was the rest of my day. So as you can see life in Colorado is pretty exciting. It basically can be summed up to this... First you go to class. Second you do homework. Third you sleep. REPEAT steps until the weekend. Friday you hang out. Saturday you hang out maybe some studying depending on how much you procrastinated during the week. Sunday- study, study, food, study, and study. Mind you- occasional showers are thrown in there as well as meals. And if you are me, you try to skype people Sunday night just to find out that Skype is causing your computer to break down and fail. So, overall, it was a great first weekend. :)

A Helluva Engineer.

Every year at the School of Mines there is a tradition that all the Freshmen climb Look-Out Mountain to the M on the side of the mountain. Not only do they climb the mountain but they get a hardhat (mine is Yellow) and they must bring a 10 lb rock to carry up the mountain and contribute to the M. Once at the top you get paint thrown all over you... Another tradition to go along with this is the singing of the school song the ENTIRE way up the mountain. I probably sang it at least 30 times. I dont think i will be forgetting it. I also had water thrown at me by upperclassmen on the walk up. This is my hardhat... Me and Bailey.

Me and some of my floormates after the climb...

Just in case you were wondering, this is the song we sang the entire way up to the M.
THE MINING ENGINEER
I wish i had a barrel of rum and sugar three-hundred pounds.
The college bell to mix it in and clapper to stir it 'round.
Like every honest fellow, I take my whiskey clear,
I'm a rambling wreck from Golden Tech, a helluva engineer.
A helluva, helluva, helluva, helluva, helluva engineer,
A helluva, helluva, helluva, helluva, helluva engineer,
Like every honest fellow, I take my whiskey clear,
I'm a rambling wreck from Golden Tech, a helluva engineer.
Hail, Hail the gang's all here.
What the Hell do we care,
As long as we get our share?
Hail, hail the gang's all here,
M-I-N-E-S!
What the Hell do we care now?
As you can probably tell this song makes pretty much no sense. We are definitely not song writers here at Mines.
